The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

This thing fuckin blew meh mind but the more i thought about it the more i realised that things like this are why alot of our characters are created! Take Liam for example; he was based off of my best frend as a kid, Liam Mathews. in kindergarden we would hang out constently he was the greatest friend i ever had, but then he got brain cancer and passed away a few years later. outta that i created a character and named it in his honor. Even Spade and nathanial come from experiances in mine. things that seem innocent and cute to alot of people were really hurtful and bad times disguiesed to seem like they were nothing. Idk y i found this so cool, i think it's bcuz i can relate to it (mainly bcuz of Nathanial) but still its eye opening. The reason why i created Tales of aboddon and awlh was to escape reality without the use of narcotics. its funny to see how as my life changed the storys changed as well. AWLH was based off a harder time and was more prone to disturbing or death scenes while TOA sstill has it's share of distubing-ness has alot less death but alot more inner conflict rather than having the characters fight against eachother. wow this is kinda a wierd journal but i still think its got alot of value.
